How To Choreograph

A Warm Hello...

I'm obviously reading during this video (apologies). But, I created this little video so you could listen to it while reading the newsletter. :)

Greetings from sunny Florida (though, today, even we’re feeling the chill)! I hope this message finds you staying cozy and wrapped in warmth, no matter where you are. Have you been blessed with any snowfall lately? Whether or not you're seeing the snowflakes, one thing is for sure—Resurrection Sunday is coming, and it’s never too early to start thinking about how you will bring your arts ministry to life!

As we look ahead, I know many of you are already beginning to pray and plan for the powerful presentations you will offer. Though Resurrection Sunday may seem far off, it will be upon us before we know it, and now is the perfect time to consider how your choreography can be even more impactful.

Are you feeling stuck with your choreography?
Does your movement need something more to captivate and inspire?
Would you love to learn how to choreograph but don't know where to begin?
Or perhaps you hear a song that stirs in your spirit, but you're unsure where to start in creating a dance that brings that inspiration to life?

There are so many tools and techniques that can elevate your choreography from ordinary to extraordinary. As dance ministers, our calling is to hear the Father’s heart and express it through our movements—so that lives can be touched, transformed, and healed. Wouldn’t it be worth taking the time to grow in your gift, to expand your understanding and skills, so that your presentations carry even more power and depth?

I believe that taking a step toward improving your choreography and learning new composition concepts is a powerful way to enhance your ministry and reach others in a deeper way. That’s why I’m excited to offer you several resources to support you on your journey:

Let me share just a glimpse of one of the choreography concepts from the book that I believe can inspire you: Cannon.

Cannon: A Powerful Choreography Concept

“Cannon is a beautiful element of design that adds depth and interest to your choreography. It’s not about launching dancers across the sanctuary—it’s about timing. One group begins a movement, followed by another, with each group coming in at just the right moment. This creates a sense of unity and progression, as the dance builds layer by layer.

For example, in one dance I choreographed to “All Honor” by Ron Kenoly, I had over 130 people involved. Toward the end of the song, the words ‘for fire’ were repeated multiple times. Instead of having everyone do the same move over and over, I used cannon to bring in one group at a time. By the time we reached the seventh repetition of ‘for fire,’ all 130 dancers were moving in powerful unity, creating a moment of incredible intensity and impact.”

This is just one example of how small choreography techniques can transform your presentation, bringing greater depth and meaning to every movement. As you work through the techniques, you’ll begin to see how each new concept can be woven into your own dances to create something truly special.

I truly believe that the resources I’ve gathered for you will be a blessing. As you study them and begin to apply the concepts, my prayer is that your dance ministry will touch hearts, heal souls, and lead others into a deeper experience of God’s love.

I would be honored to see the work you create. I’d love to hear about your journey and see a video of your Resurrection Sunday presentation. I believe it will be a powerful reflection of God’s heart, and I am excited for what He will do through you!

Please take a moment to explore the resources linked above. I pray that your work in dance will continue to bring glory to God and impact lives in ways you never imagined.

May the blessings of the Lord overtake you in every area of your life!

With love and grace,
Pastor Lynn
